Downtown Youngstown continues to serve as a vibrant hub of community engagement and family-friendly entertainment with a diverse lineup of summer events for residents and visitors alike this week.
From weekly concerts and farmers markets to film screenings and cultural festivals, the city’s central district is alive with free and low-cost activities catering to all ages and interests.
The following is a schedule of key downtown happenings:
YO Spotlight Summer Concert Series
Noon to 2 p.m. today at Spring Commons Park, 534 Mahoning Ave.
The Youngstown Parks & Recreation Department presents this popular series each Wednesday through Aug. 27. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy live music in the scenic park setting.
East End Farmers Market
5 to 7 p.m. today at Penguin City Brewing, 460 E. Federal St.
A weekly market featuring local produce, artisan goods and community vendors. The venue is dog-friendly and offers a relaxed atmosphere for shopping and socializing.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Italian Festival
5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mount Carmel.
This annual celebration offers a rich selection of traditional Italian foods, a large Italian auction, children’s activities, historical displays and live entertainment. Admission is $5; children under 12 enter free with an adult.
Director’s Lecture Series: “A Mixed Bag”
2 p.m. Sunday, July 27at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.
Join Dr. Louis Zona, executive director & curator, for a series of free lectures exploring diverse artists and themes. The series is held in the Zona Auditorium and is open to the public.
Jazz in the Park Concert Series
3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wick Park
This local music series brings soulful jazz performances to Wick Park every Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, the featured performer will be Royal Fire.
Youngstown Summer Movie Series
9 p.m. Monday at Wean Park
A free outdoor film series continues with classic and family-favorite movies. If a scheduled screening is rained out, the movie will be shown the following Tuesday. Monday’s film is Happy Gilmore (1996).
The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, a partner to help advance the strategic redevelopment of the city’s downtown, will continue to assist in improving business-to-business communication so that retailers, including restaurants and bars, can make good staffing decisions that coincide with these upcoming large events.
