STRUTHERS SOUTH INTERCEPTOR SEWER
(2nd Ranking Sewer Project)
Request
Overview:
The community is requesting
$1,485,000 (55%) of the total estimated project cost.
The remaining portion will be covered by state
and local sources and local user fees.
Project
Description:
Proposed 12” interceptor is
planned to tie US 224 into the existing Struthers WWTP providing access
to
sanitary sewer for existing structures and enabling access to sanitary
sewer
for commercial development in Poland Township. The project will also
provide
for orderly residential and commercial growth within the Struthers
Yellow Creek
Watershed. The total project
encompasses 7.1 mile, running from Arrel Smith Road (Lowellville Road
to US 224) and US 224 (Clingan
Road east
to Struthers Road.)

Project Cost:
$2.7
million
Economic
Impact:
The project would allow for
continual economic development along the US
224 corridor in Poland
Township
to the PA. Line.
The results of a survey completed by the Mahoning County Board of
Health of the
existing dwelling units along the routing illustrated numerous
malfunctioning
septic systems and off lot discharge systems.
As stated, the entire service area is within the
Yellow Creek Watershed,
a major tributary of the Mahoning
River.
Current
Status: 3/1/06
Design and Engineering work were
completed in 1987 and are generally still accurate.
Work to update the design and engineering can
be completed within a three-month period.
FY2006 Appropriations Bill request has been
submitted through
Congressman Ryan and US
Senators Voinovich and DeWine for a total of $1,485,000 for this
project.
