GROW MAHONING VALLEY
KINSMAN SANITARY SEWER PROJECT
(4th Ranking Sewer Project)

Request Overview: 

The community is requesting $9,050,000 (80%) of the cost of this project.

 

Project Description:

The project would extend sewer service into both Farmdale and Kinsman. In Farmdale, the project would run from Barclay Road, across Burnett Road to SR 5 and then up into Kinsman, from State Street over to Golf Drive, just east of Kinsman Lake. The project includes both pressurized and gravity systems, and will use both 8 and 12 inch PVC pipe.

 

Project Cost:                                                          $11,311,300                                                     

            Wastewater Treatment Facilities                        $  3,527,000

            Wastewater Collection System              $  7,784,400

 Gravity and Pressure  Collection System

 

Economic Impact: 

The project will open approximately 100 acres to development.  Additionally, it will help to solidify the presence of existing firms, including Kraft Foods, in the area.

 

Current Status: 1/17/06

Negotiation for acquisition of Kraft plant successful.  Water treatment plant transferred to the county.  $680,000 for Phase I of the project has been funded.  (Phase I – Modification of treatment plant and the installment of 2100 ft. of sewer lint to two businesses.)  Funds received from ODOD, USDA and USEPA.  Kraft removed a Dissolved Air Flotation unit that was in agreement with purchasers. Engineers looking at plant now to see if they can use the plant.  Proposal will be made to developers if plant will be used it will be scaled down. Possibility of dropping in a small package unit which would serve a limited area around the plant. Problems with anaerobic sludge pond, propose developers remove sludge.
