GROW MAHONING VALLEY
PRIORITY PROJECT #12
I-80 WIDENING
(6TH RANKING ROAD PROJECT)
Project
Description: TRU-IR80
(PID 11095) / MAH / TRU-IR80 (PID 11094)
The
project calls for the
widening and construction of an additional travel lane on I-80 in two
phases:
(1)
From I-680 in Mahoning
County
east to SR 193
(2)
From SR 193 to US 62 in Trumbull
County
Two
12 foot lanes would be
constructed along the existing alignment within the existing Right of
Way. Thirteen bridges would also require
widening to
provide for the new travel lanes.
Project
Cost:
The
estimated
cost of the project is $101 million.
Economic
Impact:
The
project will dramatically
enhance and appreciate the economic climate of the region.
The project would greatly enhance transportation
between Mahoning and Trumbull counties, and would subsequent enhance
commerce,
recreation, regionalism and other quality of life issues.
Construction
of this improvement
will reduce congestion, increase safety and improve the flow of
commerce along
Interstate 80. This segment of the
interstate has the highest recorded volume of average daily traffic
within the
Eastgate Regional Council of Government’s study area. Approximately 35% of the vehicles in this
segment are commercial truck traffic.
Current
Status: 1/17/06
The
Feasibility
Analysis was completed in January 1993.
Eastgate and ODOT District 4 are also currently in
the process of
conducting a corridor study to include all stakeholders.
This
project is
listed in Eastgate’s Long Range Transportation Plan.
The Trumbull
County phase of
the project is
currently listed in Tier III by the TRAC, while the Mahoning County
phase is listed in Tier II by the TRAC.
The project has been identified in the Future Needs
