Grow Mahoning Valley
Priority Project
#10
SR 46 & SR
82 Intersection Improvements
(5th Ranking
Road Project)
Request
Overview:
The
community is
requesting $6.5 million dollars for development of this project.
Project
Description:
Alterations
and improvements
to the intersection of State Route 46 (from proposed Mall-River
Boulevard to
North River Road) and State Route 82 (from Old 82-at Mosquito Creek
Bridge to ¼
mile east of Howland Wilson Road).
Alterations must include the elimination of the left
turn from 46 north
to 82 west and also the left turn from 82 east to 46 north. Preliminary ideas include a partial clover
leaf design or a jug handle turn east of the intersection before the
State
Route 82 – Howland Wilson
Road intersection. Improvements to the Howland Wilson Road
intersection would also be included in the scope of the project.
Estimated
Project Cost:
$6,500,000
Economic
Impact:
This
project
would eliminate a serious safety concern for the citizens of the Mahoning Valley and visitors to the area. An engineering analysis is required to
estimate the social benefit in terms of lives saved, injuries avoided,
and
overall reduction of accidents. The
current congestion would be remedied to allow additional economic
development
in the area.
Current
Status: 1/17/06
$1
million has
